Greenhouse Blinds
In the peak of Summer, greenhouses can be exposed to too much sunlight causing their interior to overheat. Although our greenhouses are fitted with Bayliss auto vents to help the escape of hot air warming the greenhouse, sometimes a greenhouse needs even more intervention to protect plants from the effect of overheating. If the use of auto vents and mindful watering of plants fails to maintain a suitable temperature for the plants within a greenhouse, blinds and shading should be considered as the next option. In addition to the risk of overheating, too much intense light exposure can burn plants.
If your greenhouse is south facing it may be worth immediately considering purchasing blinds to act as shading in your greenhouse. Each greenhouse behaves differently in local climates, so it is impossible to have a blind recommendation for each greenhouse or to prescribe the number of elevations to add shade to. We recommend you start with a single elevation, see effective how effective this blind is at cooling the greenhouse, and then add further blinds as necessary. Plants in a west facing a wall in a expose south-facing greenhouse will be most at risk. Some it is worth fitting a temporary makeshift blind or applying greenhouse shading paint to experiment what blinds you should install.
Our greenhouse blinds fit inside the greenhouse to eliminate problems that leaf fall and accumulation dirt cause from exterior fitting. The blind is spring tensioned and designed to fall around 2 inches below the greenhouse roof rafters. As the blind is pre-tensioned there is no sag over the blinds span, good for aesthetics and this also means it does not interfere in the growning space of the greenhouse. Our greenhouse blinds are 50% transparent as this is an industry standard for growing application, this transparency reduces light transmission enough for effective heat reduction, but still allows a generous amount of light to the greenhouse for working in. Our greenhouse blinds are made from green nylon fabric to make them as discreet as possible when in use in the greenhouse.
As with all our greenhouses designs, we pride ourselves on offering a bespoke service. We can also offer a bespoke service for our blinds to suit greenhouse roofs where obstructions in the roof space of the greenhouse restrict what size of blind can be used. Our bespoke blind service does operate with quite a long lead time, so in some cases, we do not have the blinds ready at the point of installation of your greenhouse. If this is the case we will let you know before your installation and make arrangements to revisit your greenhouse after the installation to fit the blinds
